santa-teresa-culture-city-day-tourThis tour takes you to some typical and important places in Rio de Janeiro. We start at Santa Teresa, the 250-year old artistic neighborhood. We will visit some sites by car, including Morro dos Prazeres that has great views of Rio. After that we walk along its main street and visit some of the traditional handicraft stores and restaurants.

From there the tour continues to the historical stadium Maracanã. Brazil is the only country that is 5-time football (soccer) world champion. Maracanã used to be world’s biggest football temple in the past, with an official world-record attendance of 199,854 for the 1950 World Cup Final against Uruguay. It is a very interesting visit even if you are not a football fan. The walking tour inside the stadium includes a visit to the dressing room, football ground and the grandstands.

The tour ends with a visit to the traditional market of Sao Cristovao. That will give you some insight in the traditions from the Northeast of Brazil. This enormous fair (32,000 sq meters with over 600 stalls) is not to be missed. It showcases barracas (food stalls) selling among other food, typical Bahian dishes, as well as beer and cachaça (sugarcane liquor). In addition to food and drinks, you will also find music CD’s, hammocks and a wide assortment of handicrafts at the fair.
